How does a claims process work at Indumar?
At Indumar, we follow a structured approach so you can get back on the water with peace of mind as soon as possible.
First step: limit and document the damage
When damage occurs, it’s important to act immediately. As a boat owner, you have a duty to mitigate loss. This means taking all reasonable steps to prevent further damage.
For example, covering a broken window to prevent water damage or securing your boat after a collision. Once the situation is under control, it’s essential to gather as much evidence as possible.
Take clear photos of the damage, the surroundings, and any third parties involved. Also note the details of those involved and any witnesses. This information is crucial for a smooth and accurate handling of your claim.
Reporting the claim: quick and easy
After taking initial measures, report the damage as soon as possible. This can be done easily via the online claims portal on our website.
For urgent situations, such as a sinking vessel or a serious collision, you can always contact our 24/7 emergency number.
When submitting your claim, we will ask you to provide key information such as a description of the incident, photos of the damage, details of the parties involved, and relevant documents such as your registration certificate and boating license. If possible, you should also include a repair estimate.
To make the process even easier, we also provide practical accident report forms that you can complete immediately.
Assessment and expert review
Once your file is complete, we assess whether the claim is covered under your policy.
For minor claims, a repair estimate from the yard is often sufficient. For more complex or significant damage, we appoint an independent expert.
This expert assesses the cause and extent of the damage on site and acts as a link between you, the repair yard, and Indumar. Based on their report, we gain a clear understanding of the repair costs and the next steps.
Repair and compensation
Once coverage is confirmed and repairs are approved, the repair process can begin. We aim to ensure this runs as smoothly as possible so you can use your boat again quickly.
Compensation is paid after the discharge receipt has been signed.
Back on the water with confidence
A claim always comes with questions and uncertainty. By structuring the process clearly and guiding you step by step, we ensure you quickly understand where you stand.
At Indumar, we support you from the initial report to the final repair, with one clear goal: to get you back on the water with complete peace of mind as soon as possible.
Green boating: the sustainable transition of recreational boating
Recreational boating in Belgium and the Netherlands is undergoing a major transformation. Where powerful diesel engines once dominated, more and more boaters are now consciously choosing sustainable alternatives. This shift is no longer a trend, but a clear direction for the sector. From technology to behavior on the water, these are the key pillars of green boating.
Legislation 2026: What’s changing in Belgium and the Netherlands?
Anyone who takes to the water knows that rules and regulations are constantly evolving. New technologies, stricter environmental standards, and a stronger focus on safety mean that legislation is regularly updated. In 2026, several important changes are coming in both Belgium and the Netherlands. Being aware of them in time not only helps you avoid fines, but also allows you to navigate with greater peace of mind.
The ultimate insurance check
The new boating season is just around the corner. As you get your boat back in top condition and prepare it for those first sunny days on the water, it’s also the perfect time to review your insurance. Because just like your boat, your policy doesn’t stand still either.
What to do in emergencies on board
An emergency on the water always happens unexpectedly. Yet with the right knowledge and calm attitude, you can do a lot to protect yourself, your passengers, and your boat. The most important rule? Always ensure your own safety first, only then can you act effectively and help others.
Well prepared for emergencies
Boating is pure enjoyment, but conditions on the water can change quickly. Good preparation makes the difference between a minor incident and a real emergency. By having the right equipment on board and making clear arrangements with your passengers in advance, you increase not only safety but also everyone’s confidence on board.
What to do about moisture and mould on board
Moisture and mould are two issues that most boat owners face sooner or later. They often develop unnoticed but can eventually cause unpleasant odours, damaged upholstery, or even structural damage. Fortunately, with the right approach, much of this can be prevented, and you can act quickly when mould does appear.
End of the boating season: how to prepare your boat for winter
When the boating season comes to an end and temperatures begin to drop, it’s important to think about winterising your boat. Proper preparation prevents damage from frost, moisture or inactivity, and ensures that you can enjoy carefree sailing again in the spring.
New rules for pleasure boating: what every boat owner should know
The Belgian authorities have announced the end of the grace period: the Pleasure Boating Act will now be strictly enforced. This means boat owners, and even visiting vessels, must be aware of the rules, as fines will be issued for non-compliance.
Why fire safety on the water matters
Fire safety on board matters, on land and at sea. Smoke alarms are mandatory for overnight stays and strongly advised otherwise. Fire extinguishers are required on all small pleasure boats, in all navigation zones. First aid kits, clear emergency signage, and safety instructions enhance protection. Sail safe, sail smart.
